Why does Excel break when I paste copied data?

Many systems insert invisible characters such as non-breaking spaces (U+00A0) or zero-width spaces (U+200B). Excel and databases treat these as real characters, causing mismatches in lookups, formulas, and sort operations.

Does this change visible content?

Only the selected options are applied. Smart quote conversion replaces curly quotes with straight ones. All other visible characters remain untouched.
